G. Megan Shields, M.D. graduated with honors from the College of William and Mary and from the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonweath University. She completed a residency in pathology at UCLA and became Board eligible in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in 1980. In 1985 she completed a residency in Family Practice at the University of California Irvine. She has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice since 1985.

Dr. Shields has received awards for her contributions as an educator. She has also researched and published papers on the subject of chemical detoxification. Dr. Shields first received training in Prolotherapy from Dr. William Faber, Founder and Director of the Milwaukee Pain Clinic. She also completed the first Gustav Hemwall seminar in Prolotherapy given by the late Dr. Hemwall, who was the world's most experienced Prolotherapy doctor.  Dr. Shields practices Family Medicine and Prolotherapy at the Shaw Health Center building located in Hollywood California.
