GROIN PAIN BLOG

Peripheral Neuropathy?
I have had pubic/groin pain on my left side for 9 months now. I have had a cat scan, x-rays, MRI and bone scan and the doctors all say they are normal, except they found a tumor in my left thigh that was not the cause of my pain and I had to have it removed. The pain is not gone...Read more

Is it sport's hernia?
A patient brought his son, highly touted baseball prospect, into the office. His baseball career was abruptly halted when chronic groin pain occurred. He was told it was a hernia, so he followed the doctor's advice and had surgery for it. That didn't help. They next told him it was caused by an iliopsoas muscle strain. So he worked with various therapies to relieve the muscle strain. Those did not help either. His back was finally x-rayed, where they found some degenerative disc changes. At this time, the team doctor began talking surgery. Read more

Positioning of the body during surgery, a cause for chronic pain
A not so well known cause of injury and chronic pain is the positioning of the body during surgery. About 2-4% of the patients seen at Caring Medical have been injured because of body positioning. Here is a recent case history. Read more

Severe adductor tendon pain
Q. I have severe adductor tendon pain. I go to a chiropractor and get relief but it does not last.  I also do stretching exercises but cannot get permanent relief.  Am I a candidate for Prolotherapy or different treatment?

A. Prolotherapy works great for adductor muscle/tendon problems. What we find at Caring Medical in Oak Park is that the adductor muscle/tendon's are getting irritated because they are contracting against an unstable base. That unstable base is the pubic symphysis.

In other words, the real problem is not a tight adductor muscle (this is why stretching it never gets rid of the problem) or a weak one (you can strengthen the adductor muscle massively and you'll still have pain), but an injury to the pubic symphysis itself or the pubic symphysis ligament. One can tell this by severe pain to palpation of the pubic symphysis or palpating the pubic symphysis and noticing that one side is higher than the other. While
manipulation has temporary benefit, Prolotherapy has permanent benefit. Generally it takes about three Prolotherapy treatments to the pubic symphysis and the adductor attachments onto the pubis to cure the problem.

Groin Pain Intensified During Monthly Period
Q. I have been getting prolo to the illolumbar and sacroiliac joint ligaments for buttock and right side groin pain, for about a year and a half now, every 6 weeks, sometimes longer.  I still have groin pain, but it is better than it used to be.  It seems to get a lot worse the week before I start my periods.  During this week, I'll get burning pain on side of pubic bone.  It gets so sore I can barely walk, have to take baby steps! Read more
